Location: Rio Arriba County, US Highway 84, 8 miles south of the Colorado state line on NM 17.

More Location: Chama is located in Rio Arriba County northwest of Santa Fe between Dulce and Tierra Amarilla along US Highway 84 near Heron Lake and the Colorado state line.

Distance (from Ghost Ranch): Approximately 50 miles north of Ghost Ranch.

Directions (from Ghost Ranch): Turn right leaving the Ghost Ranch gate onto Hwy 84 and drive approximately 50 miles north.

Description: The town sits next to the Rio Chama in a picturesque valley below the peaks of the San Juan Mountains. A former logging, mining and railroad town, Chama is now a center for outdoor recreation. It is also the departure point for the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge Railway, one the state's most popular tourist attractions.

The 2002 season runs from Saturday, May 25 to Sunday, October 20. Trains depart daily from Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, meeting for lunch at Osier, Colorado.
