Closing the Digital DivideClosing the Digital Divide

The Digital Divide web site, a comprehensive clearinghouse for information about efforts to provide all Americans with access to the Internet and other information technologies that are crucial to their economic growth and personal advancement.

The Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has established this site to help inform you of federal programs designed to close the digital divide. Using this web site, you will be able to identify a range of grant and loan programs that provide assistance to all Americans. Use this web site to find updates on funding programs, policy debates, and recent studies that address digital divide issues.

North American Rural Futures Institute (NARFI)The North American Rural Futures Institute (NARFI) has been created to assist people in rural areas -- wherever they may be -- to understand trends and to create the futures that are possible by building new engines and capacities for transformation.

Competitive farms are increasingly among the most sophisticated users of computer and sensory technologies. Computer and Internet technologies open up a wide range of new possibilities for learning and for practical applications. Every rural community will need to initiate multiple approaches for keeping abreast of 21st century trends in rural development efforts.

The NARFI Wired Community Learning Center Network program will stimulate the creation of Wired Community Learning Centers in rural communities and will facilitate communication among these Centers. Where communities already have established learning centers or groups, we will seek to include these groups in our web of communication among Network members.
