    New Mexico MainStreet Program

A Dynamic Strategy for Community Revitalization

As part of The New Mexico MainStreet Program NMCommunities.com has been designed to offer you information accessible in 3 forms:
    • The Site and Building Database will give you available land by size or by county, and the same for available buildings.

    • Community Profiles provide an overview, in full color, of each incorporated municipality. You may also view available land and buildings in the county of the community you are viewing.

County Statistics provide population, labor force and economic data at the county level (this information is also accessible within the individual community profiles).

    • The Clickable State Map will show you where our counties and communities are located in relation to each other and the major interstates.

      Regalos
      de
      Abiquiú

We are Regalos de Abiquiú, a small women-run business with a far-reaching mission of contributing to economic development in the Northern New Mexico area through the reviving and strengthening of traditional Hispanic and Native American arts.

In 1997, Helen LaKelly Hunt, owner of El Sueño del Corazón, gifted us with a wonderful opportunity through the funding and continued support of a micro enterprise. Though we had no previous business experience, we have a strong desire to create opportunity for our families and our community.

We want to keep alive the traditions of our parents and grandparents, share the beauty of our culture with others, and create career options here in Abiquiú for our children and their children.

      El Rito Library Poetry Reading

      New Mexico poet and writer
      Joan Logghe

      December 2001

Jewish poetry - A Benefit for the El Rito Library

Another Desert Jewish Poetry of New Mexico

      edited by

      Joan Logghe and Miriam Sagan

The book cover art includes two images from celebrated artist Diana Bryer.

Visit the publisher's website for more information about the book.

This collection blends the history, celebrations, and reconciliation of ancient Jewish traditions with life in New Mexico. The circle of the Jewish year is saturated by the New Mexico experience as tashlich is performed in a precious desert river, and Passover coincides with Good Friday pilgrims making a holy journey to the Santuario de Chimayo. At root these are poems of faith—in the beauty of the desert, in the survival of tradition and memory, and ultimately in the ability of language to contain and express experience.

Joan Logghe and Matha Yates, Director of El Rito Library

Another Desert Jewish Poetry of New Mexico includes work by Marjorie Agosin, Robin Becker, Yehudis Fishman, Gene Frumkin, Natalie Goldberg, Judyth Hill, Joan Logghe, Consuelo Luz, Carol Moldow, Judith Rafaela and Miriam Sagan.
      Penasco's Gathering of Elders Ceremony

New Mexico Jewish women read about their lives through poetry.

The El Rito Library poetry reading included: Joan Logghe, Natalie Goldberg, Jenny Goldberg, Phyllis Hotch and Beth Enson.

      Honoring Our Elders
      A Celebration of Life Project
Please call David & Lisa Sipp, 587-2343 with your nominations or to volunteer yourself!

Each fall 13 elders from the Picuris- Peñasco community are selected for the Honoring Our Elders, A Celebration of Life project. Different elders are chosen each year, based on the oldest person in each village and their willingness to participate.

The Picuris-Peñasco Community Coalition needs your help to compile a list of elders (75 years and up) from each of the following villages: Picuris, Peñasco, Llano (including Llano de San Juan), Rodarte (including Llano Largo, Llano de la Yegua), Vadito, Río Lucío, Placita, Tres Ritos, Chamisal (including Ojito, Vallecitos), Las Trampas, El Valle, Ojo Sarco, and Truchas.
